We saw the oncologist in charge of the chemo yesterday. He agreed that most of the expected benefit has probably been received and that risk of further injury was greater than any anticipated result from more chemo. However, he was not as alarmed as I was about the platelets. He said that he has treated patients with platelet counts as low as 40 before with no real damage. However he was concerned about the hearing issue, and felt it would not be wise to push that any further.
I have had a cough that brings up heavy mucus from some place above my lungs. Often it is tinged with blood. The doctor was quite certain it was not pneumonia, but rather mucus and blood from radiation damaged tissues in the head and neck area. just to make sure there was no pneumonia, he ordered a chest x-ray, which we took care of before going to the regular radiation session. We will learn of the results tomorrow.
The nausea/vomiting/reflux/bad food taste continues to manifest itself. Evidently part of the problem is a result of the radiation, so it will be with me for another three weeks. When said that way, it doesn't seem so bad. 15 more radiations sounds a lot longer. That is what we have left.
Hearing issue? I don't think I heard about this. The last thing that was posted about your hearing was that it hadn't changed with the chemo which was a good thing. Could you explain a little more about this, please?
